That was an extract of Mary Oliver’s poem ‘Peonies’. Got up close with these wonderful flowers this summer, with a macro lens on my camera. Wow – what a lot of intricate details inside them! And so sensual, don’t you think!

No I do not think it looks like ponies (okay that is me being silly based on the comment above) the stigma though to me looks like 5 little hens 🙂 beautiful photo

Peonies are one of my favourite summer flowers and your close up photo is extremely good. All to often our peonies come into bloom and then fall too quickly because of the rain.
